| Where can you find Sophocles?
If you are fond of Sophocles’ life and work, and want more than just reading about him, you can travel and find his tracks in today’s destinations. His home village, Colonus, was situated about 1 km (1 mile) to the northwest of Athens, near Plato's Academy.
Today the modern name of the village is Kolonos and it is part of the Municipality of Athens. There still can be found places that remind about Sophocles - the temple of Hephaestus, the temple of Poseidon and a sacred grove to the Eumenides, where, as the mythology describes, Oedipus was buried.
History also tells about Sophocles military mission in the expedition against Samos Island. Samos is another perfect place for travel, mostly for those passionate about Greek ancient history.
